Great way to start 2014! Went to the gym to run 7 miles in my new sneakers and got ambushed by shin splints. I forgot about the break in period of new shoes and insoles. That and I didn’t have speed laces, perhaps they were tied too tight, it was a completely different running experience. My legs felt like lead after the first mile and I could barely dorsiflex my feet. My anterior tibialis in both legs was on fire. It wasn’t fun. I stuck with it and did 2 minutes running and 1 minute walking until I hit the 4 mile mark, then I called it quits.
I’m running a 10k with my tri team on Sunday and am contemplating using different sneakers until my legs adjust, I’m eyeing a 10k PR and don’t want to risk another crappy run!
